After a long winter of heavy layers and dark colors, I'm ready to embrace the lighter, brighter side of style.

What I love the most about neutrals is how versatile they are. Whether you're going for a monochromatic look like I've styled here or mixing and matching different shades, neutrals always look chic and sophisticated. Plus, they're easy to dress up or down, making them perfect for any occasion.

While I'm a big fan of neutrals, classic style is about more than just color. It's about timeless silhouettes and clean lines that never go out of style. Think spring, high-wasted trousers, silky tops, and soft lightweight sweaters. These are key pieces that I'm excited to wear on repeat. They are not only stylish but also last forever and are incredibly versatile. This makes them the perfect foundation for any outfit.

Whether you're looking forward to the latest trends or keeping your look timeless, neutral tones are a great foundation for your spring wardrobe.

What are you most excited about this spring?
editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-67145456525726316042023-03-05T07:57:00.000-08:002023-03-16T18:26:03.003-07:00PDT Book Review - Get Out of Your Head, by Jeannie Allen

I recently read Get Out of Your Head by Jeanine Allen and let me tell you, it was a game-changer. As someone who struggles with negative self-talk and anxiety, this book spoke directly to me and offered practical tools from a biblical perspective for getting out of my own head and living a more fulfilling life.

One thing I appreciated about this book was how easy of a read it was. Allen writes in a friendly, conversational tone that makes the concepts that she presents easy to understand and apply to your own life. She shares personal anecdotes and real-life examples that help bring her ideas to life.

A key takeaway for me was the idea of reframing negative thoughts. Instead of letting them spiral out of control to dictate your mood and behavior, Allen encourages readers to challenge those thoughts and look for evidence in the Word that discredits the thoughts. This simple shift in mindset can have a profound impact on your overall well-being as well as strengthen your faith.

Another concept that resonated with me was the importance of community and connection. Allen emphasizes the role that relationships play in our mental health, and offers practical advice for building and nurturing those connections. As someone who has always struggled with social anxiety, this was a reminder that I needed to hear.

The most inspiring aspect of the book was the message of hope that runs throughout the book. Allen acknowledges that changing your thought patterns and overcoming negative self-talk is not easy, but she also emphasizes that it is possible. The book offers practical tools and strategies for making that shift and encourages readers to keep pushing forward even when it feels challenging.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with negative self-talk, anxiety, or just feels stuck in their own head. The concepts are practical, actionable, and backed by research that corresponds with the Word, making it a valuable resource for anyone looking to improve their mental health and well-being.

So if you're looking for a way to get out of your own head and start living a more fulfilling life, I encourage you to check out this book. It just might change your life.

If you're already on a journey of self-improvement, I encourage you to keep going. Keep challenging those negative thoughts, building connections, and seeking out resources and support. Change is possible, and you deserve to live a life that is full of joy, purpose, and meaning. So take that first step, and keep moving forward. You've got this, correction... WE'VE GOT THIS!

editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-80387653969615185582023-02-19T18:26:00.006-08:002023-03-16T18:47:42.116-07:00Changing Room: Let's Get Dressed (Again)!

Is it just me or are we over the idea of walking around in our sweats all day? I used to be one of those people who loved getting dressed up every day for work. But when the pandemic hit and I found myself working from home in my oh-so-comfy loungewear. Needless to say, I quickly got used to the comfort even if it was only from the waist down. But I've got to be honest, I'm over it. I feel like I need a change because I miss the feeling of putting together a stylish outfit.

Since moving from 100% remote to more of a hybrid schedule, I decided to put forth more effort when getting dressed.
It's no secret that I have a love for cooking. There's something about the process of creating a delicious meal that has always been so fulfilling to me. But as I've grown older and my taste buds have become more refined, I've started to approach cooking in a different way. I want my meals to feel like a fancy night out, even if I'm just cooking for myself or my husband and I at home.

For me, it's all about the details. I've found that taking the time to add little touches can make a big difference in the overall experience of the meal. For example, I love to set the table with nice dishes and silverware, even if it's just a casual weeknight dinner. It makes the meal feel more special and sets the tone for a nice evening.

Another thing I like to do is incorporate different textures and flavors into my meals. I'll often add a crunchy topping to a creamy pasta dish or a tangy sauce to a rich meat dish. It's all about finding that balance of flavors and textures that make the meal feel more complex and interesting.

I also love to experiment with different cuisines and ingredients. Trying new flavors and techniques can be intimidating, but it's also a great way to expand your palate and learn new skills. I'll often try out a new recipe on the weekends when I have more time to devote to cooking. If it turns out well, I'll add it to my regular rotation of meals. If not, I'll learn from my mistakes and try again.

One thing that's been really helpful in my quest to make dinner feel like a fancy night out is investing in high-quality ingredients. Whether it's a good bottle of olive oil, fresh herbs, or a better cut of meat because using the best ingredients can really elevate a meal.

Lastly, my absolute favorite part is the presentation because it's key when it comes to making a meal feel fancy. I'll often plate my meals in a way that feels restaurant-worthy, using garnishes and sauces to add visual interest. It's amazing how much of a difference this can make in the overall experience of the meal.

Now, who are we kidding, not every meal needs to be a fancy affair. Sometimes a simple bowl of soup or a sandwich can be just as satisfying. But when I do want to make dinner feel special, these are the things that make a huge difference.

By paying attention to details, experimenting with different cuisines and ingredients, investing in high-quality ingredients, and focusing on presentation, you're sure to create meals that feel like a fancy night out, even when you're just cooking at home.

If you're looking to elevate your cooking game and make dinner feel more special, I encourage you to try out some of these tips and see how they work for you.

Happy cooking!

I've seen this principle play out in my life time and time again. Whenever I've set a goal for myself and truly believed that I could achieve it, the stars would line up and it would happen. Whether it was landing the promotion or job title that I wanted, attaining a certification, finding love after a soul-crushing divorce, or even something as simple as learning how to cook a new dish. My belief in myself and my abilities has led to some success.

However, the flip side of this is also true. There have been countless times in which I did NOT believe in myself or my abilities and things would just flat-out not work. Belief doesn't come easy, especially in these times when you feel stuck and powerless. In those moments, it can be hard to remember the power of belief and it's just easier to settle for less or give up. I can't emphasize how many times I've given up and quit.

But here's the thing: I've come to realize that belief is a choice. It's a decision that we make every day, in every moment. We can choose to believe in ourselves or not. When we choose to believe in ourselves and have faith in our abilities, we create a powerful energy that can propel us forward toward our goals.

This energy is the source that gives us the strength to take action because unfortunately, belief alone is not enough. When we believe in ourselves, we are more likely to take that first step, even if it feels scary or uncertain. We are more likely to push ourselves beyond our limits, try new things, and take risks. This is the sweet spot where we gain the momentum that can carry us toward our goal.

The most powerful aspect of belief is the way it transforms our mindset. When we believe that we can achieve something, we adopt a growth mindset that is focused on learning and growth rather than failure and defeat. We see setbacks and obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as evidence that we can't succeed. We become more resilient, more confident, and more capable of achieving our goals.

If you're struggling with believing in yourself and your abilities, know that you have the power to change that. It starts with a choice, a decision to believe in yourself and your potential. From there, take action, seek out support and resources, and keep pushing forward, even when it feels hard.

When you believe that you can, you will. And the possibilities for your life are endless.

Reality Check: It was me, I needed to hear it.

It's my absolute favorite. Topped with scrambled eggs, cheese, red pepper flakes, and a drizzle of olive oil, how do they say? Chef's Kiss. Delicious and nutritious, is the perfect way to start your day off on the right foot.

So, first things first, let's talk about the beauty of the dish. It all starts with avocado, a superfood that is packed with healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It's the perfect ingredient to add to your breakfast because it's filling and will keep you satisfied for hours. Plus, it's incredibly versatile and can be paired with a variety of toppings to create a delicious and nutritious meal.

My approach to this dish begins with choosing the right bread. I like to use a hearty bread that has some texture to it, like whole grain, seeded, or my personal favorite thick sliced sourdough. Toast the bread until it's golden brown and crispy.

While the bread is toasting, it's best to scramble your eggs so they can be ready to add to the toast. Whisk two eggs together in a bowl with a splash of milk, salt, and pepper. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add the eggs to the pan. Cook the eggs, stirring frequently until they are fluffy and cooked through but not overly cooked... ** I'm really picky about my eggs.

Next, mash half an avocado onto the toast with a fork, add the juice of one small lime, and mix with sea salt, course pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. This part is very important, be sure to season to your liking. Nothing like bland blah avocado toast...

Spread the perfectly seasoned avocado spread across your toasted bread. If you'd really like to add additional flavor, butter your toast with a light garlic spread first. Spoon the scrambled eggs on top of the avocado spread and sprinkle some shredded cheese on top. I like to use a white cheddar or pepper jack cheese, but you can use any type of cheese you prefer.

To finish off the dish, sprinkle some red pepper flakes on top of the eggs for a little bit of heat then drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over everything for added flavor and healthy fats.

The result is a delicious and satisfying breakfast that is perfect for brunch, or any time of day really. It's a meal that is packed with healthy ingredients, and it's easy to make at home.

If you're looking for a new breakfast or brunch recipe to try, it's a delicious and nutritious meal that is sure to become a new favorite.

Enjoy!
editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-32988203252910708162023-01-28T10:13:00.025-08:002023-03-16T16:39:55.862-07:00Less Screen Time, More Page Turning

When was the last time you had to put yourself in check? I have a little boss in my head that tends to check me every so often. She speaks in a very high pitch and is super sassy... The last check I received went something like this... "Umm, you're doing way too much with all of this scrolling and shows are boring me. Stop wasting my time."

Needless to say, she was not happy about my screen time, and, to be honest, the boss is right. I've been spending far too much time on my phone and watching TV. Tiktok, Instagram, and Netflix have had me in a chokehold, literally. So, I've decided to cut down on my screen time and make a conscious effort to read more.

Don't get me wrong, nothing, like getting lost in a scroll for a few minutes or binge-watching a new series but adding a book into the rotation, isn't a bad idea. There are so many benefits to reading an actual book. I'm not talking about listening to... I'm talking old-fashioned page-turning (no hate to the people that rather audiobooks).

For me, reading is a great way to unwind, relax, and be still. When I'm reading a good book, I can completely lose myself in the story or lesson and forget about all of my worries and stress. It's a form of self-care that I always feel better doing. When I spend too much time on my phone or watching TV, I find that my brain is still buzzing with information and I don't feel as relaxed or refreshed.

Reading is a great way to expand my knowledge and learn new things. Whether it's reading non-fiction or diving into a fictional world with characters I can learn from, I always come away from a good book feeling like I've gained something. While I can say I've learned quite a bit on Tiktok, sometimes I feel when I spend too much time on my phone or watching TV I'm actually wasting time. Especially if I find myself mindlessly scrolling through social media or watching something just for the sake of watching it.

Another reason why I want to focus more on reading is that reading is a great way to improve my writing skills. As someone who enjoys writing, I'm always looking for ways to improve. When I read a well-written book, I can learn from the author's style, structure, and word choice. It's a way to pick up new techniques and improve my writing style.

Now I'm not going to sit here and pretend that it's easy because, in today's world, we rely on the screens to get through the day. It's just so easy to get sucked into the endless scroll of social media or the binge-watching of a new show. What makes it less of a challenge for me is setting concrete goals and creating a routine can be really helpful. For example, I've started setting aside a specific time each day to read, whether that's in the morning before work or before bed at night. I've also started leaving my phone in another room when I'm reading so that I'm not tempted to check it.

Overall, I'm excited about the decision, not only is it a form of self-care, it's also a way to learn new things.

If you too have set a goal to read more this year and cut down on screen time, I encourage you to give it a try. Set some goals, create a routine, and find a community of readers to support you along the way. I'll be sharing a few of my reads this year with you on the blog so be sure to stop by... Also, feel free to share book recommendations if you have any.

editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-24365002298339588302023-01-21T22:00:00.003-08:002023-01-23T14:37:31.176-08:00Self-Care at Home: Simple Tips for Recharging Your Mind and Body

Sometimes the self-care routine calls for recharging with the simple things. All I need is a cozy bed, a warm cup of coffee, John Coltrane on repeat, and a really good book. Trust me, it's free and does wonders for the mind and body. Self-care doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Sure, who wouldn't love having a full-on spa day? But there are things that we can do regularly, at home, without the hefty price tag.

Here are a few easy and affordable ways to practice self-care at home:

Take a relaxing bath or shower: Fill the tub with warm water and add in some Epsom salts and essential oils for a soothing and aromatherapeutic experience. Light candles and play some soft music to create a spa-like atmosphere.

Practice deep breathing or meditation: Take a few minutes to sit quietly and focus on your breath. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly. You can also use guided meditations or apps to help you get started.

Read a book or magazine: Choose a book or magazine that interests you and curl up in a comfortable spot to relax and escape into the story.

Listen to music or a podcast: Create a playlist of your favorite songs or find a podcast that you enjoy and let yourself be transported to a different place or state of mind.

Write in a journal or engage in creative writing: Take some time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings by writing them down in a journal or try your hand at poetry or fiction writing as a form of self-expression. You can also try other creative activities like drawing, painting or crafting.

Incorporating these simple self-care practices into your daily routine can help you feel more relaxed, energized, and rejuvenated. I mean one of my imaginary BFFs. More on that some other time. Anyhoo, I recall when I first "met" Mel. I was scrolling for a motivational speech to get my day going, and boom, she stopped me in her tracks and checked me - Hard. The better way to put this is that she slapped me up.

In this scroll-stopping speech, Melly-Mel told me that no one was coming to save me. Yep, and while on the surface, I'm sure we all have an idea of that, hearing those words and genuinely landing on that realization was heartbreaking, and I wondered why it had never hit me like that before.

We are the only ones responsible for creating our own future. This may seem daunting at first, but it is also incredibly empowering. When we realize that we control our destiny, we can take action and make things happen.

One of the critical points of the speech is that we need to stop waiting for the perfect moment to take action. The truth is, there will never be an ideal time to make a change. We need to seize the moment and start moving forward, even if we don't feel ready.

Another point that Mel drives home is that we need to stop making excuses. It's easy to blame our circumstances or other people for our lack of progress, but in the end, we are the only ones responsible for our own success. We need to take ownership of our lives and take action to create the future we want.

All in all, this is a harsh reality we all must realize at some point in our lives. A powerful reminder that we are in control of our future. It's up to us to take action and make things happen. No one is coming to save us, so we must stop waiting and create the future we want. Let's stop making excuses and start taking ownership of our lives.

After all, the future is ours to create, and it's up to us to make it happen.

editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-21271265905528888902023-01-07T22:30:00.007-08:002023-01-23T15:34:33.362-08:00Let's Faux - A Monochromatic Leather Inspired Look

(Top: Old Navy, Pants: H&M, Bag: Zara)

Faux leather pants are a stylish and versatile wardrobe staple that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Like many of us, I've had my fair share of challenges and setbacks. It can be easy to get discouraged and feel like we're not making any progress, especially when we're constantly bombarded with images of success and perfection on social media.
<p class="p2" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p class="p1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">But here's the thing: progress and success aren't always a straight line. In fact, they often involve a lot of twists, turns, and detours. And that's okay. What's important is that we keep moving forward, even when things get tough.
<p class="p2" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p class="p1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">So, as we begin this new year, I wanted to share a few tips that have helped me kickstart my journey toward my goals. These might be helpful for you, too!
<p class="p2" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<li class="li1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Set specific, measurable goals: Because this is something that is common practice in my field of work, I know how it can help to stay on track for personal goals. It's important to have a clear idea of what we want to accomplish. This could be anything from saving a certain amount of money to running a marathon. Whatever your goal may be, make sure it's specific and measurable so that you can track your progress and stay motivated.
<li class="li1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Create a plan: Once you have your goals in mind, it's time to create a plan. Break your goal down into smaller, achievable tasks and put them on your calendar. This will help you stay organized and on track.

<li class="li1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Seek support: This one is so important and has been a hard lesson for me to learn. No one accomplishes their goals alone. Surround yourself with people who will support you and help you stay motivated. This could be friends, family, or even a coach or mentor.

<li class="li1" style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Celebrate your victories: Don't forget to celebrate your small victories along the way. one at that. I feel that the best way to stay in shape is by doing things you
already enjoy. In this way, you have the benefit of working out plus the
emotional rejuvenation of doing something that brings you joy. Let’s explore
some options, shall we?.

Go for a Walk with Friends

Once or twice a week, it’s a great idea to gather with your besties
and head out for a neighborhood walk or trek along the trails. Walking is ideal for women over 40 to build stamina, enhance endurance, and
strengthen your legs.

Create a Serene Yoga Space

Yoga is one of the best methods to increase flexibility,
improve range of motion, and optimize health overall. It is a low-impact
activity that nearly anyone can do, regardless of weight, age, or fitness
level. It’s the perfect fitness endeavor for women over 40.

Most of us rely upon our vehicles to get around. Yet there
is something rewarding about running errands on your bike. Bike riders often
find hidden gems along the way and are able to explore unique parts of the city
that are inaccessible by car. Not only that but bike riding provides you with
fresh air, a good leg workout, and scenic views to relax the mind. Fitness over 40
doesn’t’ have to be a chore; bike riding is an all-around great way to spend
your free time.

Become a Stair Master

Want to have amazing legs while also building endurance?
Running up and down stairs is a great and natural way to get the legs you’ve
always wanted. Stair running also tightens your core and is a great workout
for the heart. Do it regularly, and you will be pleased with the results. The
next time you’re tempted to take the elevator, opt for the stairs instead.

Go Dancing

Many people agree that dancing is by far the best form of
exercise. Dancing enhances coordination, balance, agility, and endurance; it’s great for the heart and melts fat while utilizing every muscle in your
body. Dancing is a great way to stay young. It’s fun too. As you dance the
night away, you won’t even think about all the exercise you’re getting. All
you’ll care about is how great you feel in the moment.

Remember to Find Enjoyment in the Simple Things

Working out is one of those things we do for ourselves to
feel our best. When we work out regularly, we have more energy to direct toward
the things we are passionate about, and we have improved mental clarity to
achieve our goals.

The key to sticking with your exercise routines is to stay
focused on what you want to accomplish. It’s a good idea to write down your
fitness goals and perhaps post these goals in a visible area. Also, have a
structured routine. Make working out a regular habit and set aside a designated
time to enrich yourself.

Your body

Though it’s important throughout your whole
life to be active if you haven’t picked up the habit yet you can still start
after your 40s. Finding ways to be more active and move your body will give
you energy and make those aches and pains that come with aging a little less
prominent. Taking care of your body in your 40s and 50s will help you even
more later in life when you have that foundation built up.

However, don’t think that moving your body
means you have to join a gym or take a boot, camp-style class. If you love being
in nature, you can start taking weekend hikes. Some other good options are
at-home yoga or pilates, finding a group of neighborhood friends to walk with,
spending time in the garden, or just committing to taking your dog for a walk
in the morning and at night each day. Moving your body doesn’t have to be
strenuous to be beneficial for your mental and physical health.

Fuel
your body

In addition to moving your body, make sure
that you’re fueling your body. Not just feeding, but fueling. Of course, make
sure that you’re eating food that you truly enjoy. But mix that up with making
sure you’re giving your body the fuel it needs.

If you find your metabolism slowing down, or
that you’re not tolerating certain foods the same way you used to, listen to
your body. By fueling your body with nutrient-dense foods, along with foods
that you just love, you should be able to find a great balance of feeling great
and enjoying what you eat.

Try new

If you want to feel your best as you age,
taking care of your skin is important. As we get older, one of the places we
start to feel a little more self-conscious about is the signs of aging on our
skin. Although they are simply normal signs that we’ve lived a beautiful life
up until now, not everyone enjoys having wrinkles or spots that they feel make
them look older.

By caring for your skin you can reduce the
effects of time, the sun, etc. by finding what works best for your skin. Making
sure you keep covered and apply sunscreen when you’re out is the bare minimum
and just fine for some people. But if you’re looking for a little more, there
are a lot of types of skincare out there from creams to more advanced
procedures that can keep your skin looking and feeling beautiful.

of us have an inner critic that doubts you and tells you that you aren’t good
enough. But talking to yourself this way can really bring you down and affect
the way you go through life. No one deserves to feel bad about themselves.
You should be your biggest cheerleader! Today I'm sharing a few techniques that have helped me along the way.

Before we get started, I think it's important to understand negative self-talk:

We
all have that inner voice, but does that inner voice cheer you on or bring you
down? Most people struggle with some sort of negative self-talk. It’s what
happens when we put ourselves down, don’t believe in ourselves, and blame
ourselves for things that may or may not be true or even our fault.

But
how can we stop talking to ourselves negatively? Today I'm sharing a few techniques that I've learned during my journey.

Validate Your Feelings

Sometimes
it’s ok to validate your feelings. Rather than overanalyzing the way you feel
and trying to fix things when negative thoughts come into your head, try just
acknowledging them and not making a big deal out of it.

The
problem with negative self-talk is that sometimes one negative thought can lead
to another when we realize what we’re telling ourselves and want to correct it.
Then we’re scolding ourselves further for the negative self-talk. So instead of
doing that, acknowledge the negative self-talk and move on from it rather than
lingering on it or beating yourself up over it which only adds to the
negativity.

Talk Back!

Have
you ever tried talking back to your inner critic? Give it a try! When you say
something negative about yourself, or you make an assumption about someone else
thinking negatively about you, talk back to yourself and have somewhat of a
conversation.

For
example, if your inner critic is telling you that your boss is mad at you
because of a recent interaction and it must be because of something you did,
challenge that. Ask yourself why you might think that, alternatives to what
your boss might actually be thinking, and what’s the more realistic situation.

It
can also help to talk back as if you were talking to a child or a stranger. We
tend to be kind to children and people we don’t know well, so talking to
yourself the way you would talk to a child can help you talk back in a way
that’s less harsh or negative.

Ask for help

If
you really struggle with negative self-talk and you just need a little help,
don’t hesitate to ask for it. If you’re comfortable talking to a friend that
cares about you and gives you good advice, maybe they can help you work through
your negative self-talk by being a voice of reason.

Alternatively,
therapy can be a good option for many people. Years ago people used to think
that only people with big issues needed therapy, but now it’s pretty common for
people to go to therapy just to have an unbiased party to talk to about what’s
going on in their lives. A therapist is trained in listening and working with
you, so they can help you work through your negative self-talk and give you
some ideas on how to battle it on your own as well.

Having
some negative self-talk is normal, but if you’re at a point where your negative
self-talk is more prominent than your positive self-talk it’s probably time to
work on shifting the way you talk to yourself.

(Outfit Details - Dress, Zara; Purse- Gap)
editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-12049109603244306172022-05-20T09:52:00.000-07:002022-07-08T09:20:27.000-07:00 Things I wish I knew in my 20s

“I was smart enough to go through any door that opened.”

– Joan Rivers -

Everyone has little regrets in their lives. I mean, it is your first day of living today and how could you be perfect? There are times I wish I had someone telling me that life is not over after your 20s. In fact, it is actually the beginning and gets more exciting. Over time, I’ve learned that the 20s is a good time to experience the world and meet many people. It’s all about finding what you are interested in or what you are good at. It’s amazing to see how people live everyday life in their own way. No one is perfect and nobody can live a perfect life. I thought it would be a great idea to share some of the things I wish I knew in my 20s.

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 13.8px;">

<li style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">You will get hurt by people

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px;">Whether it's your close friends, co-workers, or random people walking down the street, there are times you will get hurt by their actions or words. It took me a while to learn, and yet, still learning to just let it go. Hurt, pain, and rejection are part of human life and it's important to not take it personally and move on. The way people treat you is not about me, it’s about them. So, don't let that hurt feeling turn you down.

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px; min-height: 13.8px;">

<li style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Don’t worry, everything is going to be okay

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px;">I spent most of my 20s with fear and anxiety. I was worried in all aspects of my life like career, finance, expectations, marriage, kids, family, and more. I came up with a solution to just embrace it. I mean, how bad could it be? If I'm not financially stable, I will work harder. If I'm not married, what's wrong with that? Everyone has their own path in their lives, so just enjoy it. This is all part of living your life.

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px; min-height: 13.8px;">

<li style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Say ‘No’

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px;">Oftentimes, I see people trying to impress others or take their burden of life when it's not their responsibility. If you want a happier life, you need to put yourself first before others. If you don't want to, say 'no' and if you're not sure, tell them you need more time to think. After all, it is your life and not others. It's hard at first but practicing helps. Be strong and believe in yourself. You know what's best for you.

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px; min-height: 13.8px;">

<li style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Be Patient

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px;">Success or happiness doesn't happen in just few days. If it was that easy, why isn't everyone successful and happy? It is all about the long-term. You need to learn how to go slowly but surely. Be consistent and just keep going without thinking. One day, you will realize how far you have come and how proud you are of yourself.

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0px 18px; min-height: 13.8px;">

<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">There are some things that you just need to experience and learn over time. Sometimes, it can't be taught by someone else. But I thought it would be good to have my thoughts out there for anyone who needs to hear this. What are some of the things you wish you knew?
editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-8866886203806481202022-05-15T14:59:00.000-07:002022-06-03T09:31:54.776-07:003 Wellness Practices to Recharge Your Mind and Spirit

When you think about your wellness practices, do you only think about your physical body? Most of us do, but did you know that your mind plays a huge role in how your body functions?

For example, when you're under huge amounts of mental stress your body struggles with its normal functions like digestion. This means that your body can have trouble absorbing nutrients and allow gut bacteria to enter the body which has a negative impact on your health.

Simply put stress can reek havoc on the body and in order for us to really adopt a lifestyle of wellness, it is not only important what we consume food-wise, but we also have to learn the practice of feeding our minds and our spirits. Just like we carefully pick foods that are in line with our health goals, we also must be just as picky regarding what our minds consume.

Today, I'm sharing 3 practices to incorporate into your daily routine for mental health . I hope that you can work at least one of these into your daily practice.

Prayer or Meditation - Science now backs the benefits of prayer and meditation. Studies show that prayer and meditation reduces stress, anxiety, and depression. Both of these promote emotional health and well being.

Reading - While turning on music may be your go to method of relaxing, did you know that reading has proven to reduce stress by 68% in adults? That’s right, curling up with your favorite page turner tends to lower your heart rate and ease tension in your muscles. Next time you’re felling a bit overwhelmed, take some time out with your favorite book.

Journaling - With jam packed schedules and never ending to do lists, most often our minds are on overload. Journaling can be a way to release and processing emotions that we my be experiencing. In addition, this practice an help us continue down the path of self discovery.

If you are already incorporating these practices into your daily life, comment below. I'd love to know how these have an impact on your mental wellness.
editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-69932466613953592742022-04-15T14:32:00.001-07:002022-05-23T14:50:02.636-07:00Classic Style Staple: A Crisp White Shirt

Whether your style is classic, minimal, trendy, or eclectic, one staple you must have in your closet is a crisp button-down white shirt. just stick to survival mode. A lot of people feel like they have missed out on the prime of their lives after 40, but that's far from the truth. Now's the best time to really live. Today I'm sharing some of the ways that you can shift gears and start thriving after 40.

Prioritize

If
you don’t already feel like you’re thriving, then consider that you might not
be prioritizing what’s important to you. Sure, you know how to make a to-do
list and prioritize what needs to get done. But are you prioritizing your
happiness? Are you prioritizing making time for the things that make you happy?

It
can be hard to prioritize because you feel like you have to do everything. But
it’s ok to decide which parts of your life make you the happiest and make those
a true priority. It could be spending time with family, a specific passion, or
something like making sure you are able to take a tropical vacation every 6 months
to relax and refresh your mind. Whatever it is that makes you truly happy, this
is the time to shift your focus and make sure you prioritize what’s truly
important to you.

Learn to Let Go

Letting
go goes along with prioritizing. When you start to prioritize your life, your
happiness, and what’s truly important to you there’s no doubt you’re going to
have to let go of some other things to create space for your priorities. This
may mean letting go of old friendships that no longer feel positive or beneficial.
This may mean letting go of a hobby you’ve been committed to since you got out
of college that just isn’t exciting for you anymore.

Letting
go can be hard, especially if it’s something that’s important to you or
important to people around you. But learning to let go, and being ok with it,
is one of the keys to thriving during midlife. When you learn to let go of what
doesn’t suit you, you can make time and space for what fuels you.

Set Long Term Goals

After 40, some people stop making long-term goals. They think that long-term goals are for younger folks, but this couldn’t be
further from the truth. If you don’t have any long-term goals, find some! Maybe
you want to buy a vacation home in 10 years so that you have somewhere
beautiful to spend more time after retiring. Maybe you want to completely
change your career after finding something you’re passionate about. Or perhaps it's starting a new business. Setting long-term goals gives you something to be excited
about, something to strive for, and that’s important during any stage of life.

Find a new passion

As
we age, we evolve. And with that, we tend to find that our interests change.
Maybe you're not as passionate about something you were obsessed with 15 years
ago. If you find yourself bored with what you used to be passionate about, go
explore new things. See what you can be passionate about now and take a deep
dive into that.

This
time is a great time to start exploring new things and figure out what brings
you absolute joy! You know what you like, you know what you don’t, and you have

It reminded me of work shirts that I used to see on men growing up. Big, unstructured, and totally not my style... Wait, wait, before you start bashing me. I've got to admit they were always such a vibe on everyone else. BUT, when my little 5'4 self would try one on, I'd get lost in the fabric. I mean, drowning in it. Like I'd put on one of my hubby's shirts, but not in a cool way. It would literally swallow my whole body so I swore off the trend... I mean I said NEVA- EVA.

Then comes my BFF, Zara. Good old Zara always hyping a girl up. While pursuing their latest sale, I came across this beauty. Just sitting pretty on the rack saying, "Hey girl, Heeeey.. try me!" So, as the nice friendly person that I am, I said - umkay.. I mean, why not. When I looked up, all I saw was egg on my face, but underneath a big smile. This one was different. A bit more structured and my frame wasn't getting lost by any means! It was a total score and one I plan on taking into the spring.

The moral of the story, as the old saying goes... If that is correct, 43% of folks have already thrown in the towel. Why do you think that is?

Well, my theory is this: either there's not enough belief in self or a lack of understanding of how to set goals that are realistic and attainable. Both are good enough reasons for anyone to throw their hands up and get back to the status quo. I can truly relate because truth be told I've been there. However, there's good news where there is a will there is a way.

Take it from your friendly HR cousin (me), the key to setting goals and reaching them is making them SMART - Specific, Measurable. Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Specific. If you work in Corporate America, you may know all about this, but have you tried this in your personal life?

Let's dive into each of them

Specific - Be specific. When setting a goal, you want to be as specific as possible. That way you can be firm on how to achieve it. When the goals are too broad, we sometimes get lost and not focused enough which throws us off track. The more specific the more focused and easier it will become to plan the path to achieving it. An example would be, "this year I want to lose 20lbs" rather than "this year I want to lose weight".

Measurable - The goal should be measurable, this will allow you to track your progress to ensure you're heading in the right direction. If we use the weight loss example above, we can say, " I want to lose 5 lbs per quarter. This way, there's a specific measurement.

Achievable - Is the goal realistic? First of all, let me say you can do just about anything that you set your mind to. However, if your goal is to lose 10 lbs in a week - is that realistic? To be honest, that's a deadly situation.... Perhaps what is more realistic is 1lb p/week.

Relevant - Is the goal relevant at this time of your life? If your goal is to be a business owner, does this align with where you are in your life at this moment?

Time-Specific - Set a time frame in which you will complete the goal. If we take the weight loss goal, perhaps your goal is to lose 20 lbs this year? When you break that down, that's 5 lbs per/quarter.

Last year, I followed this formula to achieve my personal fitness goals and I ended up losing over 10lbs while adopting habits that are a part of my life today. This year, I'm applying this strategy to reach goals for the Polkadot Theory blog and I'm confident that the results will manifest.

So tell me, do you use this strategy for your personal goals or will you give it a try this year?

editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-68578823853236212922021-12-20T12:54:00.006-08:002021-12-28T13:20:24.184-08:00Dressing for the Holidays: A Holiday Tablescape

During the height of the pandemic, the hubs came up with a great idea to convert our formal dining room into a gym. I know, I know, a southern woman without a formal dining room is like blasphemy right? Trust me I wasn't 100% on board initially but eventually, I gave in. And while we're on the topic, I think I use it more than him.

Nevertheless, I would be amiss if I said that I didn't miss decorating the dining area, especially for the holidays. I think that's something every homemaker enjoys. There's something about dressing a table and making it just as elegant as you would find in a five-star restaurant. So I asked myself how can I make the best of this situation and put on my creative thinking cap.

The solution: The breakfast table in the eat-in kitchen area. Now upgrading this area has been on my to-do list for a while and I thought what better time to give it a test run than now.

I pulled out some random holiday knick-knacks and turned my little breakfast table into a perfect dining area with all the southern charm. Being in a state of mind where you’re not worried, anxious, and just feel cool and calm can benefit you and the people around you. But how do you do that when you’re feeling overwhelmed? Check out the tips below that has helped me to find peace when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

But what exactly is peace? Even though most of us have heard of the term “peace or inner peace”, have you ever really thought about what it means? Peace is when you are in the state of being mentally and spiritually at peace. When you find peace, you are in a place where you don’t easily get stressed out. It’s the opposite of feeling constantly stressed out, or anxious. Here are a few tips that have helped me find peace and get centered:

Tips for Finding Peace When You’re Overwhelmed:

Find what’s causing you stress: Consider what in your life is causing you to not feel calm and peaceful. It may not be something obvious on the surface, so try to dig a bit deep when considering this. Is it overwhelming at work? Maybe you find yourself on social media too much and that brings up some negative feelings for you? Once you’re aware of what is preventing you from feeling inner peace, you can start to eliminate it or set limits.

Set limits: When you know what is causing you stress so that you can’t find peace, you can start to set limits around it. So if the example of social media is something that you enjoy, but you find yourself stressed out if you spend too much time on it, try setting a time of day or a day of the week when you can check it. Setting limits can take time and a lot of self-restraint in the beginning, but once you’re used to your limits it becomes a lot easier.

Learn to slow down: If you feel like you constantly have a dozen things you should be doing and your mind feels like it’s going 100 miles an hour, it’s time to learn to slow down. You need to slow down your thoughts so that your mind can remain calm and peaceful. Most of us are guilty of overthinking, so taking a moment to take some deep breaths and just slow down your racing thoughts so that you can focus on one thing at a time can really help.

Leave negative or unnecessary thoughts behind: We all have negative thoughts once in a while, but those negative thoughts can really weigh on us. The more they pop up, the more time we’re spending thinking about them or analyzing them, the farther we get from inner peace. When you find yourself thinking or worrying about something, ask yourself if it’s something that’s worth stressing out over. Is it something you can change? Or is it the thought something that you can try to train yourself to stop thinking about so often?

Practice meditation: Meditation has a certain reputation. Some people think that only certain types of people meditate. They picture a really zen room with someone sitting on the floor cross-legged. But the reality is that meditation is simply the act of slowing down and being mindful of your thoughts. Practicing meditation can not only reduce stress, but it can teach you to observe your thoughts and let them go which is a huge key to inner peace.

Learn to truly focus: If you find that you have a lot that you need to focus on at once, you can clearly see how that would be the opposite of inner peace. Removing as much as you can from your plate and focusing on one thing at a time can clear your mind from clutter and reduce the amount of mental overwhelm you’re living with.

Declutter your physical space: Even though we’re talking about inner peace, which is a mental state, your physical environment can have a huge effect on inner peace. If you’re living in a place that is stressful to you and you’re having to be in that space and interact with it every day, it’s going to be hard to achieve inner peace. Remove anything from your physical space that causes you stress or negative feelings.

Finding peace when feeling overwhelmed isn’t exactly an easy task, trust me I know. It’s a process and it’s ok to take it one step at a time. You owe it to yourself. If you're anything like me, you're dealing with so much information being thrown at us all at once and it can become a lot. Taking these steps will be worth the effort when you’re able to truly find peace.

editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09693321481432746688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5275778791611980155.post-5797901229099680442021-11-01T14:39:00.004-07:002021-11-02T07:36:44.708-07:00Clean Beauty Haul - Physician's Formula

Clean Beauty Haul Alert!
